Chair fire sparks breaking news
23-May-06
I guess I am officially a journalist, or at least a blogger.
Tonight, my friend Jennifer and I were dragging my roommate’s trash to the dumpster, when we saw a guy standing watch over what appeared to be a smoking sofa.
As it turns out, it was just a chair. A really, really ugly striped chair. You know the one, the one with the yellow and brown stripes of the 70’s. Not two seconds after Jen had heaved the last of the trash over the wall and into the dumpster, we heard sirens. We headed back up the stairs, joking that they must be coming to put the chair fire out. Sure enough, a full-size fire truck pulled up next to the building. Well of course, we had to watch what happened, and of course, I had to run in and grab my cell phone to take pictures.
About five minutes later, as three fireman circled the chair, doused it in water and drug it to the dumpster, we decided I should put together a little breaking news piece. So, using the pictures from my cell phone, and the voice-over I recorded along with them, I produced this riverting piece.
I’ve learned a lot in school. I’ve learned that I can put together a tight little breaking news piece, complete with images and a voice-over with nothing more than my crappy cell phone. Yeah for technology! Yeah for breaking news online!
