Oh no, I’m a tourist

Can I actually be classified as a tourist when I live in the city?

Staci on the double-decker tour bus in NYC
All aboard the Gray Line double-decker “All Loops” bus tour. It was windy and quite cold, but we had a blast, err, being tourists.

After all my bitching and complaining about tourists lately I felt a little guilty climbing on the tour bus today with my parents.

Oh well, what can you do? They wanted to do it. And actually, I had a lot of fun. I saw more of the city than I ever could have just walking. And now I know which neighborhoods I want to check out next.

Jay and I are going to be very busy next weekend…there’s Little Italy, China town, Greenwich Village, Harlem, museum row, some fabulous ornate churches somewhere up north…well, you get the idea. One could live in this city for a hundred years and never see it all.

Highlights from today’s tour:

  • Ground zero. I was in Seattle when the towers fell, seeing the site made it more real.
  • Standing on the Stanton Island ferry and hearing at least five or six different languages spoken by all sorts of interesting people.
  • The Statue of Liberty. She’s a lot smaller than you might think.
  • The Soup Natzi’s restaurant. I already knew where it was and the tour guide let me point it out to everyone. I felt special. Everyone believed I was a true New Yorker for a minute.
