Now that’s multimedia
My former colleague, and friend Elizabeth Strott is Markets Reporter for MSN Money. Her most recent article, Running all the way to the bank is an excellent example of multimedia reporting.
I recently met up with Elizabeth in New York City and we talked about all the things she is learning at MSN. She works with multimedia producers to shoot and edit video and post stories online. It’s all very exciting.
Let’s break her story down:
- A great story angle, it’s about money, but it’s also about sports and leisure.
More people running races like this weekend’s New York City Marathon means big spending on the shoes and workout gear. Companies from Asics and Nike to Apple are poised for big profits.
- Smart use of subheads to breakup the story.
- More runners — and more miles
- Marathons mean money
- Running 2.0?
- Cities court spillover spending
- TWO video packages.
- A nice personal touch with a related personal photo of the reporter who ran the 2005 NYC marathon.
- Lots of linkage to both MSN Money pages and external sites. 28 total
This is what we should be doing with our news stories on a daily basis. The web is a different medium and thus warrants different kinds of storytelling methods that use all sorts of multimedia.
Nice work E!
