Moving sucks, hire professionals
19-Dec-07
Living in NY taught me a lot, like how living out of a couple suitcases and a large trash bag is a luxury. It sure made moving easy. Hail a cab, drag your stuff over to the trunk, driver puts it in the trunk, climb inside, drive to new apartment, driver puts your stuff on the curb…walla, home sweet home. From Manhattan to Brooklyn and back again. Too easy.
This move was not as easy. It involved a complicated serious of events that had to be carefully mapped out and perfectly timed.
Day 1
Pack the kitchen and living room. Throw the crap out, carefully wrap the breakables, label everything.
Day 2
Do laundry. Attempt to wash the Monster hair out of the blankets and comforter.
Day 3
Pack the bedroom.
Day 4
Pack the bathroom.
Day 5
Movers arrive… sit back, and try to relax as they load up the truck. Cross fingers that the boxes and furniture don’t go over 2300 lbs. (They did, of course!)
Monster wonders where everything is going?
Celebrate a successful weigh-in with the girls and $3 martinis at the World Grotto in Knoxville.
Day 6
Hello cleaning lady.
Party like a rock start with Knox friends at Barleys.
Day 7
Get the dog and remaining boxes packed into the Bitchin Taurus. Drive to Kansas.
Monster is seriously getting concerned about his situation. Where are we going mom?
Day 8-11
Travel from Knoxville, TN to San Francisco, CA by way of Holton, KS, Mankato, KS, Albuquerque, NM, and Barstow, CA. (This took a little longer than expected due to the nasty winter weather in Kansas.)
Day 12
Meet the movers at the apartment in San Francisco. Watch as they unload. (Jay had to fly from MCI to SFO to meet the movers because our stuff beat us to San Fran!)
All our stuff is here!

December 18, 2007 — we finally made it to San Francisco — and we even had time to stop at Wal-mart and pick out a coffee maker. Finally, after more than a year and a half without one, we have a brand new coffee maker, complete with a timer and a cleaning cycle. I’m in heaven!
This apartment ROCKS! Jay did an outstanding job picking out the perfect place for US. This is OUR place. Amazing… check out some pics on Flickr: Girljournalist. I’ll be posting a lot more… stay tuned!
