My Top 10 favorite rain-inspired songs

It’s raining again in San Francisco. And the current forecast predicts seven more days of it.

Monday…Showers.
Tuesday…Showers.
Wednesday…Partly cloudy. Chance of showers.
Thursday through Friday…Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers.
Saturday…Partly cloudy. Slight chance of showers.

So I woke up this morning inspired to write a list of (what I consider) the top ten rainy day songs.

What’s on your nightstand?

Today, a friend of mine asked me what books I have on my nightstand. See photo below.

My nightstand has seven books and a stuffed T-Rex I bought in Japan.

My friend said you can learn a lot about a person by the books they have on their nightstand. So, I shared with him my current nightstand catalogue and explained how it’s a wonderful example of my ability to multi-task. It’s quite the pile. And it’s not like I have them queued up. Oh no. Lately, I have found myself starting a book, then picking up a new book and starting it.

It’s like I have book A.D.D. I can’t seem to get all the way through one book. It’s probably because I have some books in my rotation that I consider business-related (not necessarily something that has to be read cover to cover, start to finish), others are quick, fun, read a little here, read a little there (mostly collections of short stories) and others are books that my husband has already devoured and passed on to me (requiring me to read them slowly and carefully so I am able to discuss them with him).

I wish I had more time to read, to really concentrate on reading and get “in” to a book. When I was younger I read a lot (special thanks to my mom for locking up the TV and encouraging us to read). I would sit on a heat vent for hours and hours reading Beverly Cleary, Judy Blume and Noel Streaitfeild…

I’m seriously considered canceling our Comcast cable so we would spend more time reading. But the truth is, we spend a lot of time on our computers, (the TV is just on in the background). I think it’s pretty clear that I’m not ready to end my computer addiction and severe my ties to the interwebs.

So, until I become independently wealthy and can dedicate half my day to lounging around the house (sitting on a heat vent) reading, I will just have to continue dividing my reading time between multiple books.
